A tool for sharing data allows companies to share secure, real-time data with their ecosystem. This enables teams to solve a wide range of critical business problems, such as breaking down silos, speeding the completion of projects, enabling collaboration with data transparency, and uncovering new insights.
As the number of enterprise IT applications grows in complexity, the need for reliable solutions for real-time data sharing is a necessity in getting business results. The volume of data generated by IoT devices as well as office equipment and website visitors is growing exponentially.
Many of these integrations have been driven by the need to improve analytics, efficiencies and revenue streams. The key challenge is to transfer massive amounts of data from source to destination in a scalable manner without losing their value. The conventional approaches such as SFTP and pre-signed URLs for object stores and data migration via ETL processes can’t scale to the amount of data needed and are only applicable to only a single vendor (e.g. Oracle, AWS Redshift or Snowflake).
To tackle the issues of real-time data sharing, there are many solutions that are emerging. A specific class of platforms, which are aware of the data they hold and act as trusted intermediaries between apps, can help alleviate some of these problems. This shifts the responsibility for managing data flows onto the platform provider. It can also speed up and make data integration easier by removing the complicated retry-and-retransmission capabilities that are part of many traditional tools.
